I decided to get involved in the demo process as well. If you know me, you know I love a good buy and will exhaust myself to save some money. Well, there was some wallpaper in the house that needed to come down. I have stripped my fair share of wallpaper over the years and could see no reason to pay someone to take it down. So I did it! Kind of funny when it came time to strip the 2 story stairwell. Good news was it came down with little effort.
Evidence of my work!
We took down the wall that separates the family room from kitchen. It will be replaced by lower cabinets and counter...no wall. There will be bar stools at the counter on the family room side. It is amazing how big and open the space feels without the barrier.
The wooden paneled wall with window is what went away.
You can see how much more open the family room/kitchen feels without the barrier.
You never know what you will discover when you start taking things apart in a home. When we removed some of the wood paneling in the kitchen it exposed an open cavity behind the paneling. I could not stand it that there was this space and it was not being used. So we put our heads together and came up with a solution.
This is what the cavity looked like when viewed from the dining room. It is being framed and will be dry walled and will become home to....
this hutch. It is one of my most favorite pieces of furniture and we had not been able to find a home for it when we mentally placed furniture in the new house. No longer a problem as it will have its own custom built home right in the dining room!
We made a really exciting discovery about a special place within walking distance to the house. A new neighbor told us there is a great place to skip rocks and when I told the Lego Master about it he asked if we could go. I was not exactly sure where it was, but we decided to try to find it. There is this wonderful park just down the street that is split in half lengthwise by a stream. Paths line the park and it is always brimming with walkers and runners and dogs and kids! So off we trekked in search of the rock skipping sanctuary.
WE FOUND IT!!!!
The Lego Master has decided that it might not be so bad after all to move. He asked if he could come to the creek in some old tennis shoes and no socks and then get in the water. I assured him that would be fine. The kid can skip a rock!
The Professor was not so sure that he wanted to go on this adventure. But even he found it quite fun to skip rocks....or attempt to skip rocks.
The Princess thought it was very entertaining and impressed us all with how she can skip a rock. She even brought the Lego Master back on another visit to the house.
I think we are going to like it here!!!!
